Switzerland Capital Gains Tax Calculator 2026

Private capital gains on movable assets (shares, crypto, etc.) are tax-free in Switzerland! This calculator is an educational tool showing when gains become taxable — real estate (Grundstückgewinnsteuer) and professional dealer activity.

How Swiss Capital Gains Tax Works

Switzerland has one of the most investor-friendly tax systems in the world: private capital gains on movable assets (shares, bonds, crypto, etc.) are completely tax-free. However, gains become taxable under two circumstances:

  • Real Estate: Gains from property sales are subject to the Grundstückgewinnsteuer, with rates decreasing as holding period increases.
  • Professional Dealer Status: If you trade frequently (typically ≥5 transactions per year for ≥5 years) or with high turnover (≥5x your portfolio), you may be classified as a professional dealer and gains become taxable as ordinary income.
