Property CGT Breakdown

Residential property CGT rates changed from 6 April 2024. Basic rate taxpayers pay 18% and higher rate taxpayers pay 24% on gains. The annual exempt amount is £3,000 (2025/26). You must report and pay CGT on UK residential property within 60 days of completion using the CGT on UK Property account. Principal Private Residence relief may apply if the property was your main home. You can deduct allowable costs (SDLT, legal fees, estate agent fees, improvement costs).
