How property tax works in Sweden

Sweden has two types of property taxation: Fastighetsavgift (municipal property fee) for residential properties, and Fastighetsskatt (property tax) for commercial properties. For single-family homes, the fee is the greater of 0.75% of the tax value or a fixed amount of SEK 8,524/year (2026). Apartments pay a flat SEK 1,450 per unit. Commercial properties pay 1% of the tax value. Mortgage interest is deductible: 30% on the first SEK 100,000 of interest, 21% above that.
