How KiwiSaver works

KiwiSaver is New Zealand's voluntary retirement savings scheme. You contribute 3%, 4%, 6%, 8%, or 10% of your gross salary. Your employer adds a minimum 3% (subject to ESCT). The government contributes up to $521.43 per year (50c per $1 of your contributions up to $1,042.86). Funds are invested in PIE-compliant schemes taxed at your Prescribed Investor Rate (10.5%, 17.5%, or 28%). You can access your savings from age 65 or for a first home purchase.
