How is Irish salary calculated?

From your gross salary, three deductions are made. First, Income Tax (PAYE) at 20% on income up to your standard rate band, and 40% on income above it. Tax credits of €3,750 reduce your final tax bill. Second, the Universal Social Charge (USC) is applied at progressive rates: 0.5% up to €13,528, 2% from €13,529–€27,920, 4.5% from €27,921–€74,478, and 8% above €74,478. Finally, PRSI (Class A) is 4% on all income. The sum of these three is deducted from your gross to give your net salary.

Standard rate bands 2026: €44,000 (single), €55,000 (married 1 income), €88,000 (married 2 incomes). Tax credits: €3,750 total (personal + employee). USC and PRSI apply to all income.
