How USt works in Austria
The Umsatzsteuer (USt) is Austria's value-added tax. The standard rate is 20% for most goods and services. The reduced rate of 10% applies to food, public transport, rent, etc. The intermediate rate of 13% applies to certain cultural services, wine sold at the winery, and some other goods. Businesses collect USt from customers and remit it to the tax authority (Finanzamt).
