Panama Tax Filing Guide 2026

Taxes in Panama are administered by the DGI (Dirección General de Ingresos). Corporate returns are due March 31, personal returns by March 31, and ITBMS returns monthly by the 15th. All filing is done electronically.

Tax Identification Number (RUC)

Every taxpayer in Panama must register with the DGI to obtain a RUC (Registro Único de Contribuyente). This is the taxpayer identification number used for all tax filings, invoices, and correspondence with the tax authority. Registration can be done online through the DGI's e-Tax portal.

Penalties for Late Filing

Late filing penalties in Panama are: 10% of the tax due for the first month of delay, plus 2% per additional month (maximum cumulative penalty of 50% of the tax due). Late payment interest also accrues. It is important to file on time or request an extension if needed.
