Dominican Republic Tax Filing Guide 2026

All tax filing in the Dominican Republic is done electronically through the DGII (Dirección General de Impuestos Internos) online portal at dgii.gov.do. Businesses and individuals use the RNC (Registro Nacional del Contribuyente) as their tax identification number. Corporate ISR returns are due by March 31, individual returns by March 31, and ITBIS returns are monthly.

RNC Registration

The Registro Nacional del Contribuyente (RNC) is the tax identification number required for all taxpayers — individuals and businesses — who engage in taxable activities. Registration is done through the DGII portal. The RNC must be included on all invoices, contracts, and tax returns. For corporations, the RNC is obtained during the company incorporation process.

DGII Online Portal — E-Filing

The DGII provides a comprehensive e-filing system for all tax obligations:

  • Registration: Obtain and manage RNC, update taxpayer profile
  • Annual ISR return: File Formulario IR-1 (individuals) or IR-2 (corporations)
  • Monthly ITBIS return: File Form C612 by the 20th of each month
  • Withholding tax returns: File and remit WHT on dividends, interest, and royalties
  • Payment: Make tax payments electronically via approved banking channels
  • Certificates: Request residency certificates, tax clearance, and payment history

Authentication is done using a username and password (clave de acceso) obtained during RNC registration. Two-factor authentication is available for enhanced security.

Filing Deadlines

  • Corporate ISR (CIT): March 31 of the following year
  • Individual ISR: March 31 of the following year
  • ITBIS (monthly): 20th day of the following month
  • Withholding tax (WHT): Monthly, by the 15th of the following month
  • TSS social security: Monthly, by the 15th of the following month

All deadlines are calendar dates. If a deadline falls on a weekend or public holiday, it is generally extended to the next business day.

Penalties for Late Filing

The DGII imposes the following penalties for non-compliance:

  • Late filing: 10% of the tax due, minimum DOP 5,000
  • Late payment: 1.1% monthly interest (approximately 13.2% per annum)
  • Non-filing: 25-50% of the tax due, plus interest
  • Incorrect filing: 10-25% of the underpaid tax, plus interest

Retention of Records

Taxpayers must retain all supporting documents (invoices, contracts, bank statements, accounting records) for at least 5 years from the filing date. The DGII may conduct audits within this period and request documentation for any filed return.
